Backwards Design

Here is the introduction to my DreamIT product. As stated by the professors of the class, “Before you begin writing all of the five parts below to assemble your grant, we will begin with a little activity to help you think through your overall purpose and contemplate the end goal. To do this, you’ll begin at the end, with a little bit of backwards design. We’ll be discussing this concept of backwards design a bit more in class, followed by giving you a little time to think through your DreamIT project in full-blown backwards design mode (we have a template and everything).

Essentially, backward design is a method of designing educational curriculum by setting goals before choosing instructional methods and forms of assessment. Backward design involves three stages:

Identify the results desired
Determine acceptable levels of evidence that support that the desired results have occurred
Design activities that will make desired results happen”
